Early Childhood Teacher

The Early Childhood teacher is a specialist on nurturing the social-emotional, physical, cognitive l and language capabilities of young children. Children learn through a process of play and discovery where the teacher facilitates creative expression. In Kindergarten there is a more formal focus on literacy and mathematical concepts. The teacher is responsible for the delivery of the Early Childhood Program using inquiry and open ended explorations to engage students. The teacher has responsibility to teach personal health and safety and promote the development of Trans-disciplinary [soft skills] and the Learner Profile as key aspects of the PYP program

Purpose

The Early Childhood teacher is to promote the vision and purpose of the school through the delivery of a play based program based on the tenets of the PYP. Using contemporary educational practice, the early childhood teacher delivers an exploratory curriculum focused on social-emotional, cognitive, physical and language domains. The teacher uses music, drama, art, dance and physical movement to support the development of these domains. The teacher supports language development in all aspects of the play based program, and given the formative learning of language, a multi-lingual perspective is promoted. The early childhood teacher is expected to hold to the collaborative commitments of the school, and work professionally by modeling the values of the school and the learner profile.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Use contemporary educational methods and practices to implement the Play based program with particular attention to the tenets of the PYP and the social emotional, physical, cognitive and language development of the child.
  2. Promote the vision, purpose and values of the school which are inherent components of the PYP program.
  3. Actively contribute to develop, implement, evaluate and improve the early childhood curriculum to nurture international mindedness and ensure students’ curiosity and imagination are heightened through relevant and engaging learning.
  4. Use responsive assessment and instruction to meet the needs of every child and personalize learning, paying particular attention to the cultural and language backgrounds of students.
  5. As a part of the assessment process use a range of formative, classroom based assessments including anecdotal notes’ and observation to support the development of the ‘whole child’ in the physical, cognitive, social-emotional and language domains, and appropriate with PYP and YPJ assessment policies and practices.
  6. Manage, plan and document appropriate learning that promotes student engagement and curiosity
  7. Facilitate every student to explore, and develop his/her potential to achieve personal growth.
  8. Develop a caring nurturing learning environment that promotes student well-being and social-emotional health.
  9. Attend to all professional duties and responsibilities which include effective supervision, attendance at meetings, collaborative planning and school events.
  10. Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and leadership to further teaching and learning, and reflect on professional practice for improved student learning.
  11. Use the YPJ Teacher Appraisal system to set professional goals for self-improvement.
  12. Communicate effectively with students and parents on learning and ensure partnerships are developed to intervene and support student learning.
  13. Conduct all school activities, in a safe and environmentally compliant manner to comply with Yayasan and PTFI policies and procedures.
  14. Support the service learning and Outreach programs.
  15. Participate in a substitute duty roster where required.
  16. Other duties as required.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • S1 Degree in Education, preferably with minimum 2 years of teaching experience in ealrly childhood.
  • S1 non-Education degree with additional Teaching Certificate in early childhood education preferred.
  • Minimum of PGTK certificate for early child education, preferably with 2 years of teaching experience, or S1 degree in English, Psychology, Nursing, and child-development-related disciplines, with 2 years mandatory teaching experience.
  • Open, Creative mindset.
  • Reflective Practitioner.
  • Technology Advocate.
  • Capacity with the English Language.
