IB Music Teacher

As the IB Music Teacher, you are responsible for delivering a dynamic, inquiry-driven, and student-centered music curriculum that aligns with IB philosophy and framework standards. This role requires deep understanding of IB pedagogy and the ability to inspire creativity, collaboration, and cultural appreciation through music. The teacher will nurture students’ skills in performance, composition, and music analysis while cultivating global awareness and intercultural understanding through musical expression.

This position requires an educator with a minimum of five years of IB teaching experience, who can mentor colleagues new to IB, foster a vibrant music culture across grade levels, and serve as both a performer and leader in the school community.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design and deliver engaging music lessons aligned with the IB frameworks and school-wide learning goals.
  2. Foster creativity, collaboration, and musical appreciation in students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  3. Teach a range of musical skills, including instrumental performance, vocal development, composition, and music theory.
  4. Incorporate inquiry-based and concept-driven learning approaches that promote deeper understanding of music as a global language.
  5. Integrate technology and digital tools into music instruction, including composition software, digital recording, and editing platforms.
  6. Plan and conduct school performances, assemblies, and musical productions that showcase student learning.
  7. Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate students’ musical growth in alignment with IB assessment criteria, providing constructive feedback for improvement.
  8. Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary learning experiences connecting music to the arts, literature, history, and social studies.
  9. Mentor peers and contribute to professional learning communities (PLCs) as the school strengthens its IB teaching culture.
  10. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or appropriate administrator, including supporting whole-school events and community initiatives.

Background Experiences

  • Minimum 5 years of IB teaching experience, ideally across multiple levels (PYP, MYP, or DP) or equivalent international contexts.
  • Proven record of fostering student engagement and achievement through performance, composition, and reflection.
  • Experience supporting a developing IB culture and mentoring teachers new to the IB framework.
  • Experience organizing musical events, concerts, or collaborative performances.
  • Experience working in international, bilingual, or SPK schools; familiarity with remote or industrial community settings is an advantage.

Professional & Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Teaching certification or equivalent credentials (e.g., SPd., M.Pd., PGCE, B.Ed., IB-recognized training).
  • Formal IB training and experience in IB curriculum planning and assessment.
  • Proficiency in English for English-medium instruction; proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in various instruments (piano, strings, wind, percussion) and/or vocal performance, with experience directing ensembles or choirs.
  • Experience with music composition, theory, and digital music production tools.
