Papuan Arts and Culture Teacher

The Papuan Culture Teacher plays a vital role in integrating Papua’s rich cultural heritage within the IB-based curriculum, creating meaningful learning experiences that celebrate identity, diversity, and creativity. The teacher is expected to design innovative lessons that help students connect local wisdom with global perspectives while maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lesson Planning and Implementation

  • Teach according to PYP & MYP principles and contemporary educational methods, focusing on the IB Learner Profile, inquiry, attitudes, and transdisciplinary skills.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a Papuan Cultural Arts Curriculum aligned with the IB and National Curricula.
  • Design challenging, relevant, and engaging lessons that respect students’ cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

2. Assessment and Student Development

  • Use formative assessments and provide timely, constructive feedback to improve student learning outcomes.
  • Facilitate exploration and development of students’ creativity, identity, and excellence.
  • Foster a caring, supportive, and socially-emotional learning environment.

3. Learning Management and Documentation

  • Plan, manage, and document learning activities using the YPJ Unit Planner and SharePoint.
  • Maintain effective communication with students and parents through regular reports and feedback on learning progress.

4. Collaboration and School Engagement

  • Collaborate with fellow teachers, school leaders, and parents to enhance teaching and learning quality.
  • Participate in meetings, collaborative planning sessions, and other school activities.
  • Support After-School Activities (ASA), extracurricular programs, and school-wide learning services.

5. Professionalism and Compliance

  • Set personal and professional development goals through the YPJ Teacher Appraisal System.
  • Comply with Yayasan and PTFI policies to ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as needed, including substitute teaching duties.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or Anthropology.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Understanding of the IB Curriculum and National Curriculum.
  • Deep knowledge of Papuan culture, including local languages, art, music, dance, traditional attire, folklore, philosophy, and local histories—especially the Amungme and Kamoro cultures.
  • Cross-cultural awareness – Ability to connect Papuan culture with other Indonesian and global cultures in line with IB’s international-mindedness.
  • Visual and material literacy – Familiarity with Papuan cultural symbols, motifs, and artifacts along with their philosophical meanings.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills within a school environment.
  • English proficiency preferred.
